Office Policies
It is our fervent desire to make the treatment of your eating disorder as rewarding as possible. There are several things we have learned over the years that facilitate the treatment process. It is very important that you adhere to the policies set forth below.
- Please be on time for your appointments. We know this can be difficult with the vagaries of the Denver traffic but allow enough transit time. We will need all the time allotted to focus on treatment issues. We cannot make up time due to lateness. Please notify us if you are running late if possible.
- Please give at least 24 hours notice if you cannot attend your appointment. Understand that we cannot sort out reasons for missed appointments. Late cancellations or missed appointments for any reason will charged at a rate of $140 for extended appointments (45 minutes) and $90 for limited appointments (20 minutes) and medicine checks. Realize that once time is reserved, it is yours and yours only. Time is very valuable and it is important that others have an opportunity to use the time that you vacate.
- If you call to reschedule your appointment, be sure to check your voice mail messages frequently after you leave a message with us, in case we leave you a tentative appointment time. Appointments are given out on a first come, first served basis, so the first responder gets the time.
- Telephone calls: We get a large number of calls but have limited time to return them. We would request that you write down your appointment times in a secure place so that you don’t have to call to verify appointments. If you have specific questions about medications or treatment, we will be happy to briefly respond. If more detailed evaluation is required, we will need to set up an appointment. Expect to hear back from us within 24 hours except on weekends.
- Medications: Please watch your medicines carefully to ensure that you renew or refill your prescriptions in a timely manner. You should call for refills Monday through Thursday when we are in the Denver office. You should avoid weekend refills since the on-call doctor can only give you a limited supply (which will be more expensive for you).
- Payment is due at the time of service. Be prepared to pay for your session with check, cash, MasterCard or Visa.
- Therapy is a big commitment. Expect that we meet regularly and that you may have goals and homework assignments to complete between appointments. We should work to make conditions optimal for therapeutic progress.
- Be active. Therapy is an interactive process. If things are not making sense or not feeling right, ask questions. Therapy involves two minds working together to understand the nature of your difficulties. All problems afford the opportunity to increase your self-awareness and self-awareness leads to enhanced sense of well-being. And that is our goal.
- Bear in mind that if you report abuse or neglect of a minor or vulnerable adult, it is my responsibility to report it to the appropriate authorities.
- If you are in imminent danger of or reveal intent of harming yourself or another person, or appear gravely disabled, it is our legal right to inform others, including family, friends, or authorities of this. In all of these cases, involuntary hospitalization is an option.
